Lego Ideas TRON: Legacy (21314) Review

Today, I will be reviewing the recent TRON: Legacy set that was released on March 31st. The set retails for $34.99 and is exclusive to Lego stores and possibly Toys R Us. It contains 230 pieces and three minifigures which considering its price is a bit expensive in my opinion. The set includes two light cycles; one for both Flynn(blue) and Rinzler(orange). The minifigures included in the set are Sam Flynn, Quorra, and Rinzler(evil Tron). Also included is a display stand for the two light cycles.
The Build:
From the initial build that was made by the original creators, there were a lot of changes that I believe were positive to this set. First off, I love the idea of two light cycles instead of just one. When I saw the possible set image of this set, I was blown away by the fact that we could get two light cycles. The set is also less bulky than the previous one and more similar to the actual light cycle in the movie. The part usage on the set is fantastic! Lego took a lot of newer pieces and incorporated them into the set with excellent skill. The printed 4 x 4 disks are great and add a lot of depth to the set that I feel could not be achieved by brick building the wheel. Even the way the minifigures sit in the cycle is the same way that you would sit in a real light cycle which I thought was a great detail. The build is relatively small, but the overall look of the set is just great. There is not too much play-ability with the set and it is mostly suited for display. The banner pieces used for the trail left by the light cycles are great and I feel it adds a lot to the set when displayed.

There is also the display stand which is suppose to resemble the track on the grid. It is nice as a display piece to go with the two light cycles, but I feel that it was just used as filler brick for the set.
The Minifigures:
First up for the minifigures is Sam Flynn. Let me just start off by saying that Lego did an excellent job with these minfigures. The printing on them is superb and I love the fact that Lego also printed their arms. The hair is the normal spiked hair in a medium flesh color. The head is a new piece and includes two facial expressions: one with a smirk and one with an angry look. He has his disk which attaches to his back via a clear neck bracket. The disk is great and is printed very nicely, but it seems to be a bit big compared to the one in the movie. His Torso is printed on both the front and back with amazing detail. His arms are printed and just look great, adding so much to the look of the minifigure. His hips, legs, and feet are all printed which are fantastic and the hips actually align pretty well with the legs and torso.

Our next minifigure is Quorra. Her hair is not a new mold and is black, but the hair choice used is actually spot on with the Quorra in the movie. Like Sam, her disk is connected to her back with the clear neck bracket piece. Her torso is printed amazingly, both on the front and back. As I have stated before, the arm printing is fantastic. Lego even printed the tattoo on her arm that signifies she is a certain race. Her legs and hips are also printed and aligned almost perfectly with the torso. Her accessories include a katana as well as her disk.

The last minifigure is Rinzler. For those of you who have not seen TRON, Rinzler is Tron. He includes 2 orange disks which are attached to his back via a technic neck bracket. His helmet is the same as many existing minifigures out there, but is black and has a simple, yet effective print. His Torso is printed on both the front and back and are printed amazingly. The arms are not printed though which is a bummer, but the minifigure still looks fantastic. His legs and hips are printed and again lined up almost perfectly with the torso. His head is one that is included on some first order officers and technicians.

Overall:
The set is amazing! Both the minifigures and builds are ones that cannot be missed. There is just one problem which is price. For a set that contains only 230 pieces, $34.99 is steep. With this, try to get the set for $30 or less with some VIP points. With all this considered, this is a must buy.

Build: 10/10
Minifigures: 10/10
Play-Ability: 6/10
Value: 6/10

Overall: 8/10
