Lego Ninjago Movie Kai's Fire Mech (70615) Review

Today, I am going to review Kai's Fire Mech from the Lego Ninjago movie. It retails for $69.99 and comes with a piece count of 944. The price per piece of the set is amazing coming in at around 7 cents per piece. The set also includes 6 minifigures which is good for the price of the set.

The Fire Mech
Kai's Fire mech is approximately 15 inches tall making it one of the tallest Lego mechs ever released to the public. Lego did and excellent job with this set. The details are superb across the entire thing. The one downside is that it is small compared to the actual mech from the movie, but compared to the minifigures it is gigantic. The front of the mech is great in detail. Some things that I did not find nice were that there is a gap between the glass windshield and the mech. This is very unnoticeable and you will probably not mind it. Another critic is the size of the upper arms. It is a bit small and just does not look great from the front view.
The back of the mech is actually very well done in my opinion. There is some detailing which makes it appealing to the eye. There are also 2 tanks that are connected to either arm which connect to the flamethrowers. I don not like the look of the open studs, but there is really no way to avoid it without making it too bulky.

The sides show off the shoulder guards very nicely and give it the bulky look tat it was missing on the part of the arm from the front view. The arms have posible technic connection points both on the shoulder and elbow. The elbow connection is very sturdy, but the shoulder connection is not. With one small tap, the arm will collapse to its lowest setting. Each leg is connected to the body with 3 posable connection points each. This makes the legs very sturdy which helps the legs from collapsing while standing. Another downside is that there are no knee joints which is a bummer. The feet are connected to the leg with a technic ball joint which enables the feet to move about freely from the leg position which is nice.

The Minifigures
This is the regular Kai minifigure that comes in every other Lego Ninjago Movie set. The only difference is that this Kai does not include the katana holder. The printing for the minifigure is very nice and is one of the best of the ninjas in the line. The combination of colors is also very nice and blends very well.
This Zane is the same one that comes in all other Lego Ninjago Movie sets. He has a dual sided head, one side with a smiling face and the other side with an enraged face. He includes the black quiver that connects to his neck and the black bow as his weapon. His printing is on both sides of his torso and only on the front of his legs. The printing is done very nicely and has a certain appeal to the eyes.
This is Hammer Head who is a soldier in Garmadon's army. He is technically exclusive tot his set because of his head which has the beard but other than that, no.Lego did a very nice job in the molding of the head/neck piece. The printing of the torso and legs is also very nice as well. His weapon includes the fish with a hammer attached.
Jelly has also appeared in 2 other sets but is technically exclusive to this set because of a neck bracket which holds a stud for the gun. His head has a red beard with stubble's around the mouth. His head/neck piece is a two part piece which really gives the effect of a jelly fish nicely. His legs have small knee pads instead of large knee pads. His torso is different in the fact that it has jellyfish tentacles coming down from the neck. Lego did an amazing job catching the essence of a jellyfish in a Lego minifigure.
Lauren is a citizen of Ninjago City. She is exclusive to this set and has some very amazing details to spot out. Her head includes 2 faces, one scared and one happy. Unlike other old school citizens in other sets, she is fitted in an outfit more modern. The hair piece is not new, but it does sport a new color which is orange. Her torso and legs have wonderful printing. Her accessory is an ice cream cone with pink ice cream.
Like Lauren, Henry is another citizen of Ninjago City. He is exclusive to this set and also includes some odd but interesting details. One of the details being that  he has a fish on his shirt. His head includes 2 faces, both being scared. His torso, as a I mentioned before, has a fish and some writing on it. I can however not make out what it translates to be. His pants are new and appear to resemble khaki pants which is new for Lego. His accessory is a translucent lime green popsicle.
Overall
Kai's Fire Mech is a set you should definitely get your hands on before it retires. The price per piece and figure count is great for the $70 price point.

  1. Wow! This is a good one. I am going to attend a kid’s birthday party next weekend because it is my friend’s son’s birthday and I have to be there. This will be a perfect gift for him. I hope I find it online on time because sometimes the deliveries are done late. Also going to find more shows by Andy Yeatman
